This study aimed to determine if the attitude of students toward the English language was impacted by their religious beliefs in Islamic Divinity High Schools in Turkey. To do this, the Foreign Language Attitude Scale were used. The scale designed to measure attitudes toward English as a foreign language was applied to 297 students attending Islamic Divinity High Schools. Results showed that students’ attitudes toward English were impacted by their religious beliefs, and this, in turn, impacted their learning of the language. However, despite this, the majority of students still felt it was necessary to learn English. Course materials were found to be inappropriate for Islamic values by many students. Participants who deemed the English coursebooks inappropriate expressed their opinions under three primary themes: inappropriate images in the books, unsuitable topics, and the promotion of non-Islamic values. It is suggested that the needs of these students may be considered when consolidating material to better aid their learning.
